Holy Week and Easter 2020

Holy Week and Easter 2020

Palm Sunday

We will hold a procession of palms starting outside to celebrate Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem, and remember the events of his ministry there leading us to the edge of shadow. During Coffee Hour all ages are invited to color Easter eggs with Family Ministries as we prepare for the joy yet to come! …

Maundy Thursday

Tenebrae service of scripture, communion and candlelight marking Jesus’ final night on earth, the Passover supper with his disciples, and the institution of Communion for the first time, ending with betrayal in the garden, led by the First Church Deacons.  …

Good Friday

Joint Good Friday service with St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church here at First Church. Through scripture, hymns, and voices who speak to us from the story of that last day, we will prayerfully focus on the meaning of the sacrifice of Jesus for us and for the world. This is a beautiful meditative service as we continue to walk in Jesus footsteps toward resurrection!  …

Easter Vigil

Easter Vigil Service is for Families & the Young at Heart. This is a joint Easter Vigil Service at St. Andrew’s Church. All are invited to experience this most ancient Christian service made new in a new ecumenical Easter Vigil Service led jointly between First Church and St. Andrew’s Church with special focus on our littlest members.  We will mark the end of Lent with a service of light and the waters of baptism renewal, and ring in Easter when the bells are run and we sing Hallelujah!  …

Easter Sunday

Rejoice with us in worship with choir and trumpet as we celebrate God’s redemptive power manifest in the Resurrection of Jesus Christ:

6:00am: Sunrise Service on the Church steps. We gather while it is still dark as voices of the disciples tell us of coming to the tomb and finding that Jesus is risen, bringing us out of the darkness and into the light of the first Easter morning!

10:00am: Intentionally family-friendly Service with special children’s message and childcare for children under 5 as we celebrate Jesus’ Resurrection, when love conquered death that surprising Easter morning for all of us, then and now!  Choir, trumpet and timpani delight with jubilant Easter music culminating in the joyous singing of the Hallelujah Chorus!

Easter Egg Hunt for Children – This year the children will join in an Easter Egg hunt on the Green directly after worship led by Youth Director Christine Callahan and First Church Youth Groups!
