Visiting with Young Children

We are so glad that you are thinking of joining us on a Sunday morning! Families are welcome and cherished at First Church.  Families with children are very welcome in our sanctuary. We begin every worship service as a multigenerational community, children from 1st grade to middle school take part in a children’s message and are then dismissed to Church School or Confirmation Class. We have a dedicated classroom for our pre-Kindergarten and Kingergarten age children.  Please ask a greeter or usher for directions for childcare.

We schedule several Communion Sundays a year where children in grades 1 and up remain in worship with their families to experience the sacrament.  Children are welcome to join in Communion at the discretion of their parents.

Visiting for the first time?  Please inform a greeter or usher that you are new and that you’d like to be introduced to our Lead Teacher or Family Ministries Director.…

Worship Services

We worship together each Sunday at 10:00 am.  Sunday worship services are also broadcast Sundays at 8:00 am on Longmeadow Cable Television (LCTV) Channel 12.  We often schedule services at other times, especially during Advent, Christmas and Holy Week and during times of local or national crisis. Special service times would be posted on our homepage and online calendar.

Walk through the front door on any Sunday of the year and you will be greeted by one of our ushers with a smile.  You will be handed a worship bulletin and be given an invitation to find yourself a seat or be escorted if you prefer. In the pew rack in front of you will be a red Pilgrim Hymnal and a black New Century Hymnal.  The bulletin will indicate in which hymnal you can find the hymns we will sing that morning, as well as the prayers we will offer together.  Our church is fully wheelchair accessible – our main front doors as well as our Williams Street door have handicapped entrances.  Large-print service bulletins and assistive listening devices for those with hearing impairments are available from the ushers.

Worship leadership is shared by our ministers, Senior Pastor Rev. Pamela McGrath and Associate Pastor Rev.

What to Expect When You Visit

Sunday mornings we gather as a community to actively live the Gospel and to be renewed by the living God. Through worship and education, music, fellowship and prayer, we are invited into the beauty, adventure and mystery of faith. Our Sunday offerings include enrichment and learning opportunities for children and adults, community worship in the sanctuary, and a fellowship hour in our hall. We warmly welcome you to participate in some or all of these opportunities as you wish. If you are a first-time visitor with children, please know that kids of all ages are free to take part in our children’s messages and church school programs or to remain with their parents in worship, as they prefer. Our Nursery/Pre-K Room is open every Sunday morning for our youngest visitors.

First Church is handicap accessible.  We have a ramp for accessing our front doors as well as the door on Williams Street and an elevator that reaches all floors.

Visit our worship section for details on worship at First Church.

“What should I wear?” Wear whatever you wish. First Church has no dress code. Most of us dress comfortably and somewhat informally—heels and ties are definitely optional.…

We Are Open and Affirming

On September 18, 2011 members of First Church voted to become an Open and Affirming congregation by adopting the following welcome statement: “We, the First Church of Christ in Longmeadow, strive to live out our stated mission to seek love and justice in our world. We welcome persons of every age, race, ethnicity, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, mental, physical, emotional, economic and social status, and circumstance of life into the full participation and ministry of our church.”…

Weather Closings

In case of adverse weather, First Church follows the lead from Town of Longmeadow.  If the town issues a parking ban, then the church building is closed and all meetings are canceled.

If weather should cause a church service to be canceled a special alert would be sent via our email system and a notice would be placed on our homepage and be sent to WWLP Channel 22.…
