The Environmental Justice Team of First Church encourages you to seek out events in the Pioneer Valley to acknowledge Earth Month and Earth Day, April 22.
Tuesday, April 17, 6–7:30 pm: The Sixteen Acres Library in Springfield will observe Earth Day with Senator Eric Lesser discussing New Train Travel in Western MA
Wednesday, April 18, 10 am–3:30 pm: UMass will observe Earth Day with the Massachusetts Climate Leadership Summit. Speakers and a student showcase featuring posters, videos and other projects, and a Campus Resiliency Community Visioning Workshop make up the program.
Thursday, April 19, 6:15–7:45 pm: The Sixteen Acres Library in Springfield is screening the movie “Before the Flood”
Saturday, April 21, 1–2 pm: Members of the local Citizens’ Climate Lobby will review the work they do on to build policies that address climate change at the Sixteen Acres Library
Saturday, April 21, 2–3 pm: The Springfield Garden club will demonstrate growing plants from seed at the Sixteen Acres Library
Monday, April 23, 5–8 pm: The East Longmeadow Library will screen “An Inconvenient Sequel”. First Church member Mark Pohlman will facilitate discussion following.
Monday, May 7, 6:30–8 pm: Storrs Library in Longmeadow is showing the film “Catching the Sun”, with discussion following.
The Environmental Justice Team is open to all who would like to tackle the pressing consequences of climate change. The next meeting of the committee will be Thursday, May 10 at 2:30 pm in the Buxton Room.
