Ten members of the Senior High Youth Group (YES!) and 3 chaperones traveled to Washington, DC from July 6-13, 2013. The theme of their trip was Ministry to those in Urban Poverty.
Some of the ways they helped do God’s work in our nation’s capital included:
- Planting, fertilizing and weeding at a farm that donates a large percentage of their crops to food banks
- Cooking and serving lunch and breakfast to the unhoused at ‘Our Daily Bread’
- Sorting donations of fruit and vegetables (and other donations) for the DC food bank
- Cooking food at the DC Central kitchen, which makes 5,000 meals each day to send to homeless shelters, halfway houses, afterschool programs, and other establishments
Thank you to everyone who contributed to the trip by attending one or more fundraisers, buying chocolate Easter bunnies and mission trip stock. And thank you to the Board of Mission for their generous donation as well.
You can follow their experiences by reading their blog.
Most of the group reported back to the congregation by running the Sunday worship service the day after they returned. Every member of the group who was able to attend the service participated in some way. Jenna and Sarah hosted a children’s moment, and Hannah delivered the sermon.
