At a special congregational meeting after the service on Sunday, April 30 our church voted to call the Reverend Pamela Woodall McGrath as the 17th settled Senior Pastor of First Church.
The meeting was held after Pastor Pam led a full worship service, complete with a baptism and chidren’s message. She preached a rousing sermon entitled “Where is Jesus?” to a captivated congregation.
During the post-worship meeting the members of the Senior Pastor Search Team each shared information about the search process and the reasons they were recommending that she be called. After the vote was taken (which was unanimous), Pam and her husband Doug came back into the sanctuary to a standing ovation from the congregation!
The meeting was followed by a reception in Bailey Hall where those in attendance were able to greet and welcome Pastor Pam.
About Pastor Pam
Pam grew up in Atlanta, GA and came to ministry as a second career. She is a storyteller and has worked as an organizational consultant.
She received her Master of Divinity from Phillips Theological Seminary in Tulsa, Oklahoma and has over ten years of experience as a Senior Pastor, most recently serving North Community Church UCC in Marshfield, MA. She is presently the moderator of the UCC-MA Conference, Pilgrim Association and was Chair of the Marshfield Interfaith Council from 2011-2016.
Pam has three grown daughters and she is expecting her first grandchildren this fall, one in September and one in October. She and Doug have a puppy named Roxy.
Pam is passionate about preaching, working with volunteers, and “building the Beloved Community.” She says that her “love for story and metaphor as ‘windows into the character of God’” is what drew her to ministry. “Stories are good tools (ones Jesus often used)” she feels. “They teach us truths about our relationship with God, our community, and ourselves.”
Pam and Doug plan to look for a home in Longmeadow.
We are looking forward to having Pam beginning her ministry at First Church in August, in partnership with Associate Pastor Marisa Brown Ludwig. Her first Sunday with us will be August 20.
