First Church of Christ in Longmeadow, UCC
763 Longmeadow Street, Longmeadow, MA (413) 567-6287
Sunday Services: 10:00 a.m.
Senior Pastor Rev. Dr. Jay Terbush Associate Pastor Rev. Marisa Brown Ludwig
A special meeting of members of The First Church of Christ in Longmeadow will be held Sunday, June 2, immediately following the 10 a.m. Service of Worship.
The meeting has been called by the Church Council to decide if the church should engage in an extended transition period of up to three years with the Rev. Jay M. Terbush. A "yes" vote would approve the extended revitalization transition; a "no" vote would cause us to revert to the shorter, traditional plan.
Although the Church Council could have voted on this issue itself, it became clear during the two informational sessions held that the members and friends of First Church wanted to vote on this issue. If you were not able to attend one of the two sessions, a CD is available in the church office that contains Dr. Jay's presentation.
Childcare will be provided during this meeting, but it should be requested by contacting Nancy Yesu by 3pm on Friday, May 31, so we know how many people will be needed to care for the children.
Note: Absentee ballots will NOT be accepted for this vote. If you cannot attend the meeting but would like to share your opinion, please do so in writing. Send your letters to Dwight Shepard, in care of the church office. He will read a representative sampling of all letters received during the meeting.
A Note from Dr. Jay:
I urge all of our members to be in prayer about this most important decision. The outcome of the discernment process culminating in the vote this Sunday, June 2 will have a significant impact on the life of this church for years to come, it sets a direction, defines our purpose, clarifies the work that the church is to be about accomplishing. So it is a very exciting time to be part of discerning God's wisdom and guidance for the future--both near term and for the next decade and beyond. I trust that God is with us, as we seek to listen to God's Still-speaking Voice. Whatever the decision made by the members of the church who gather this Sunday, we will work together to be faithful to God's call to serve in the name of Jesus Christ in all that we do.
